FAQ
What is Vedic Yoga?

Vedic Yoga is a nonprofit organization (under the name 'Vedic Health Inc') founded by Amita Jain and run by volunteers. Our mission is to promote the teachings of classical Hatha Yoga and to be a source of yoga education for everyone in our community seeking a healthier, happier life. We offer classes online and in studio, as well as a wealth of information on Raja Yoga and Hatha Yoga on our website and through events and seminars.

What kind of yoga do you teach?

We teach traditional and authentic Hatha Yoga rarely found outside of India. Hatha Yoga focuses on meditation, deep breathing, and asana practice - holding various poses in a specific sequence - in order to induce deep inner cleansing and purification that lead us physically to greater well-being and balance, mentally to increased calm and poise, and spiritually to higher states of consciousness. While students do gain strength and flexibility, the primary goal is more so to nourish and cleanse our inner organs, our minds and souls.

Can your classes help people with a medical condition?

The primary focus of our instruction is inner health and healing. Our yoga and pranayama classes are highly therapeutic and have proven to help with a variety of conditions including hypertension, diabetes, high cholesterol, arthritis, asthma, depression, anxiety, hormonal imbalances, insomnia, and much more. Regular practice often shows results within 60-90 days, however many of our students report feeling a difference after just one session. View our student testimonials.

In my subscription of Hatha Yoga and Pranayama weekly classes, I see that I have access to 4 videos, instead of just the one weekly video. Why is that?

We have included up to 3 prior class videos with your subscription in case you wish to get in more practice each week, with a different set of postures. Many of our students advance quickly with regular practice. This is our way of encouraging you to add yoga to your daily routine.

The Hatha Yoga All Levels class is too difficult for me. What should I do?

Start with Gentle Yoga or Surya Namaskar Class. Once you are comfortable in those classes, enroll in the Level I class and practice a poses every day. Soon you will increase flexibility, strength and stamina. Then start the All Levels class and use variations to adjust the poses to your comfort level.

What is the Surya Namaskar Practice class for? Who should take it?

Surya Namaskar, or yoga Sun Salutations, is a flow of poses that, when practiced regularly, offer incredible benefits in many, many ways. The practice class is intended to teach the correct method and techniques of Sun Salutations. It is vital that students learn it properly as errors can result in injury.

I have taken the Gentle/Beginner Yoga classes and now I want to join Hatha Yoga All Levels. Is there anything I should know?

You should know how to perform Surya Namaskar, yoga Sun Salutations, smoothly and correctly before joining the All Levels class. For this, enroll in the Surya Namaskar Practice class. Most people learn in just one class of Surya Namaskar, some need more time to get it right. The All Levels class requires a greater degree of strength, stamina and flexibility. Don't feel discouraged if you're not able to perform all the asanas the first time. Use variations to adjust poses to your comfort level. Take your time and listen to your body. Allow the pose to 'happen' rather than trying to achieve it.

I'd like to make a donation to support what you do. How can I do that?

Your donations, large or small, go a long way for us in supporting the work that we do in Yoga and Ayurveda for our community. With your aid, we are able to help hundreds of people every year recover naturally from chronic illness and pain. Our primary expenses are rent, software fees, and administrative staffing. We try to keep our costs low to make our services affordable to everyone, but this income alone does not cover our expenses. Donations help us immensely. We personally contact every donor with a word of gratitude. You can donate here. Thank you for your kindness!
